Coastal Maine Cottage Wedding • Donna + Ginger • West Bath, Maine Wedding Photography

Donna + Ginger hail from Texas and had never visited the great state of Maine before choosing to tie the knot here. Ginger put it perfectly, when she explained how they chose to marry in Maine:

“Although many states in New England have legalized gay marriage, Donna’s cousin lives in Bath, Maine and Donna had always imagined getting married on the water. So, all the pieces just fell into place for us to have a summer wedding, on the water, with family, legally, in Maine.”  Well said, Ginger! Donna + Ginger also expressed their happiness about a “great unintended consequence of having the wedding ‘away’ (ha ha Maine joke), was that our families got to spend lots of time together and really get to know each other during the long weekend. In hindsight we couldn’t have imagined anything better.”

Both brides are golf teachers (and actually met on a green!) who have a passion for adventure, locally made brews + each other of course! The two decided to take an epic road trip en route to their Maine Wedding. As soon as school was out for the summer, they hitched up their sweet teardrop trailer and departed the Lone Star State to embark on their journey.

We loved hearing about their travels (and were lucky to see some photos from their adventures too!) The trio (Donna, Ginger and their beautiful German Shepard, Skylar) stopped to visit family in Arkansas, stayed in a rural area south of Nashville and “stayed three days on a ridge outside of Asheville, NC watching sunsets over Great Smoky Mountain National Park every evening, enjoying the mountains and streams, and tasting some good beers. ” (As veteran road trippers our selves, we were just a little jealous…) They also camped on the edge of DC, stayed in a state park south of Boston where they “took a 13 mile bike tour all through the city, ate some great food, and drank beer at historic locations.”

From Boston, the next stop was West Bath, Maine for their big day!

We couldn’t have been happier for Donna + Ginger on their wedding day (umm, let’s just say we both shed a few tears behind our cameras. . .) Donna + Ginger walked down the aisle together, followed by their sweet Skylar, who was the ring dog. She wore a special locket on her collar, which contained the rings, and the officiant joked how she was better behaved than most ring bearers! (It was totally true!)

After their completely genuine ceremony finished, Donna + Ginger were toasted by their family and friends, and ate dessert first! (Our kind of people!) Then, we took some time to together to create images in the natural setting surrounding the cottage. All the while, their family and friends transformed the grounds for a lobster bake.

The lobster and clams were a little perplexing to some of the younger guests. Their reactions were so much fun to document!

And, as any lobster lover knows, floss is often promptly required after feasting! Donna + Ginger, you and your families and friends had us smiling so hard all day that our faces hurt!

Following their amazing day, Donna + Ginger continued on their adventures. On Sunday, they enjoyed an amazing brunch at Mae’s Cafe before embarking on a boat charter with their guests. They also visited Acadia National Park and Prince Edward Island before heading home. Back in Houston, Donna + Ginger hosted a reception at a local brewery for many of their friends who could not travel to Maine. And, we are told, their friends “got a strong sense of the spirit and joy of the event just from looking at your wonderful pictures!”

Donna + Ginger, thank you for sharing your day with us! We can’t wait to see you again one day and catch up on your adventures over a cold one! We’ll bring along some lobster too!

Congratulations! xo

Yay! It’s always a treat to start the new year by seeing your images in print! I am excited to share that one of my photographs was published in the Editor’s Picks section of the January 2014 issue of Real Maine Weddings. You can find the magazine at local news stands or order it online! (It’s full of lovely imagery and inspiration and is a GREAT resource if you are planning a wedding in Maine!) I captured this image (lower left) while second shooting for the fabulous Felice Boucher at the Grey Havens Inn, a charming location at the edge of the Maine ocean. rmwjan2014

I Heart Faces Photo Challenge: Jump!

I Heart Faces puts on a weekly photo challenge, and this image looked like a perfect fit for this week’s theme! (Bet you can guess what it is…) I captured this shot at Louis + Carey’s Newagen Seaside Inn wedding while second shooting for the endlessly awesome Michele Stapleton. I love this shot Carey, catching some serious air and looking intensely stoked about getting hitched to her groom, Louis, who later climbed a tree! This couple knows how to j-u-m-p!

Two Lights State Park • Maine Wedding Photography • Kathleen + Matt

Kathleen and Matt got married on a beautiful spring day in May. We started our day with the couple at their home in Portland, where they were finishing up preparing for the big event.  Kathleen wore a stunning  vintage dress, from 1927, which her mother had purchased at an estate sale nearly a decade ago. As you will see, the dress looks like it was made for Kathleen – it fit her perfectly, and required no alterations. Instead of a veil, Kathleen wore a delicate, Art Nouveau-inspired head-piece, which suited her so well. Kathleen’s lovely friend, Barbara Campanale, added the final touches to Kathleen’s look, styling her makeup, and setting the head-piece just right.   Kathleen+Matt-24

Matt intended to wear a souped up Windsor Knot (double? triple? I don’t even know!)  As many fellows do, Matt consulted youtube, to make sure he got his tie perfect! (And he did – good job Matty!)

My favorite piece of Matt’s ensemble were his awesome Fluevogs. Once I set sight on Matt’s kicks, I was immediately curious about his socks, and I couldn’t help asking… I was not disappointed!

Kathleen and Matt chose to hold a private ceremony for their closest friends and family at the edge of the ocean. Their group caravanned to Two Lights State Park, and proceeded to the ceremony site together.

After spending some QT with their closest friends + family, Kathleen + Matt made their way back to their place, where they hosted a tented Bohemian Art Nouveau themed party at their house. At this point in the evening, we (who happen to be friends with these two great people) transitioned to guests, and another photographer arrived to capture the party.  Instead of having a sit down meal, Kathleen and Matt opted to have continuous, awesome noshing throughout the entire evening. They had spectacular food, created by a bunch of local chefs. Some of my favorites included seared tuna, sushi, an antipasto platter of obscure smoked meats, olives – the list goes on. Tim loved the grilled salmon and the BLT sliders. Hands down, the food was amazing!! Kathleen + Matt also featured a signature period cocktail, the Ward 8, a delicious concoction of rye whiskey, citrus juices and grenadine. These two know how to throw a party!

Camden, Maine Engagement Photos • Camden Snow Bowl • Erin + Matt

Erin + Matt approached us with the idea of doing both a winter and a summer engagement shoot.  Our only challenge was, once the word “winter” was mentioned, we seemed to have a streak of snowy days, each promptly followed by a full day of rain to melt it away.  These two are troopers! We played tag with the weather for some time, and eventually, Matt suggested that the Camden Snow Bowl might be the last place in Maine (in late March) to still have a bit of snow. He was right!  Erin + Matt arrived very prepared with a variety of outfits and props they wanted to incorporate into their images. We spent a few hours exploring the grounds of the Camden Snow Bowl with these two lovelies. Here are some of our favorite shots from the session. Congrats Erin + Matt!

Okay, I will admit, I am an obsessive list maker (as well as picture taker!)
Here (this lil’ blog focused on our images of folks in l-o-v-e), before your very eyes, is a goal that has maintained a spot on the “to-do list” for too long!
I am smiling as I can finally say, “yay! Here it is!”
